Traveling to Brazil in 2025? e-Visa Required for U.S., Canada and Australia Citizens

Since April 10, 2025, travelers from the United States, Canada and Australia need a Brazilian electronic visitor visa (e-Visa) to enter Brazil. If you are planning a trip for tourism or business, it’s important to understand the new requirements so you don’t face last-minute surprises.

1. It’s a Legal Requirement, Not a Suggestion. This is no longer a visa-free option. Without a valid visa, you will not be allowed to board your flight or enter the country. The e-visa is the most common way for tourists and business travelers to get permission, so don't leave it to the last minute.

2. The Process is Digital, But Detailed. The application is done online and may be completed in a week, but you must have all your documents ready, including a passport-style photo and a valid passport. One of the most common reasons for a rejected application is a photo that doesn't meet the specific requirements. Double-check everything before you submit it.

3. Validity and Stays Have Limits. An approved e-visa for tourism is generally valid for 10 years and allows multiple entries. However, each individual stay in Brazil cannot exceed 90 days, with a maximum of 180 days within a 12-month period. Overstaying your visa can lead to fines and, in some cases, deportation.

Don't let visa confusion disrupt your plans. Talk to a specialist in Brazilian law to ensure your travel and legal status are in order before you fly.
